WA-led research protecting babies from RSV

“It makes me proud to be a West Aussie”: Jimmy’s fight with RSV and the breakthrough protecting our babies.

When Jimmy contracted RSV, what seemed like a simple cold turned into six weeks in hospital. For his dad Ian, that experience showed just how important this research is for families everywhere.

Researchers at The Kids have been working to change the story of RSV for more than 25 years. RSV is the leading cause of hospitalisation in young children. Our studies built the evidence that made Australia’s first RSV immunisation program possible, a program that has already protected tens of thousands of babies and cut hospitalisations by 90%.

For families like Ian’s, whose little boy Jimmy spent weeks in hospital, that research means fewer children will face the same struggle and more parents can take their babies home healthy. In this video, Ian shares his family’s story alongside Associate Professor Hannah Moore, whose team at The Kids has led this life-changing research.
