Computational fluid-particle dynamic and pharmacokinetic assessment of electronic cigarette aerosols for improved understanding of their potential to impact healthThis project will use computational methods to assess the deposition of e-cigarette aerosols in the lungs, and the distribution of chemicals within e-cigarette aerosols throughout the body.

Nicotine and other potentially harmful compounds in "nicotine-free" e-cigarette liquids in AustraliaThe aim of our investigation was to assess the chemical composition of a range of e-liquids available in Australia, focusing on nicotine and other potentially harmful compounds

Mechanical Abnormalities of the Airway Wall in Adult Mice After Intrauterine Growth RestrictionWe propose that mechanical abnormalities of the airway wall acquired through disrupted fetal growth impact susceptibility to disease
Research
Increased heterogeneity of airway calibre in adult rats after hypoxia-induced intrauterine growth restrictionThe rat model demonstrates that intrauterine growth restriction leads to a more heterogeneous distribution of airway lumen calibre in adulthood

The concentration of iron in real-world geogenic PM10 is associated with increased inflammation and deficits in lung function in miceMineral dusts in the occupational setting are associated with poor lung health, however very little is known about the impact of heterogeneous community...

The influence of moving walls on respiratory aerosol deposition modellingThis work initially examines particle deposition in a Weibull-type geometry, comparing traditional computational fluid dynamics approaches with a novel...

Acute diesel exhaust particle exposure increases viral titre and inflammation associated with existing influenzaExposure to diesel exhaust particles (DEP) is thought to exacerbate many pre-existing respiratory diseases.

Rhinovirus exacerbates house-dust-mite induced lung disease in adult miceIn this study, we combined human-rhinovirus infection with a clinically relevant mouse model of aero-allergen exposure using house-dust-mite in an attempt to...

The Safety of Alcohol Pharmacotherapies in Pregnancy: A Scoping Review of Human and Animal ResearchAlcohol pharmacotherapies pose unknown teratogenic risks in pregnancy and are therefore recommended to be avoided. This limits treatment options for pregnant individuals with alcohol use disorders (AUD). The information on the safety of these medications during pregnancy is uncertain, prompting a scoping review. The objective of this review was to investigate available information on the safety of alcohol pharmacotherapies in pregnancy.

Feto-placental vascular structure and in silico haemodynamics: Of mice, rats, and humanThe complex arborization of the feto-placental vasculature is crucial for optimal fetal nutrition, waste exchange and ultimately, development. Ethical and experimental limitations constrain research into the human placenta, hence experimental animal models such as mice and rats, are crucial to understand placental function. It is unclear how well the mouse and rat feto-placental vascular structure emulates human. Moreover, the implications of differences in vascular structure, especially in arborization, for placental function remain unclear.
